I live in the USA now, serve in the Army National Guard, and speak English every single day. But it did not start this way.
For a long time, I was the “good student” who secretly couldn’t speak. I memorised thousands of vocabulary words, studied every grammar rule I could find, and filled notebooks with exercises.
On paper, I knew English really well. But when it was time to actually talk to someone, everything froze. My brain went blank, my heart started racing, I hesitated on every sentence, and I spoke so slowly it almost hurt.
So I became obsessed with fixing this. I tested every method I could find, kept what worked, threw away what didn’t, and built a simple system that focuses on speaking first — not memorising rules.
